Only if we so choose.
We should be developing nuclear power, and applying clean coal technology. This island stands on coal. And we can obtain uranium from the Canadians, who are not foreigners, but Her Majesty’s Loyal Subjects.
That way lie high-wage, high-skilled, high-status jobs for the working class, and independence from Arab oil and Russian gas. Among many other good things, this would contribute significantly to reversing Thatcher’s destruction of the economic base of paternal authority, initially in working-class families and communities, but then very rapidly throughout society as a whole.

The Billy Liar of the provinces indeed.
This blog has long argued that the citizens of the other Commonwealth Realms should have at least the same rights of entry and abode here as those of EU member-states.
ReplyDeleteYour ever-expensive definition of Fascism now unsurprisingly includes:
- high-wage, high-skilled, high-status jobs for the working class;
- independence from Arab oil and Russian gas;
- the reversal of Thatcher’s destruction of the economic base of paternal authority, initially in working-class families and communities, but then very rapidly throughout society as a whole;
and
- public ownership, which is, of course, British ownership.

He thinks that the Commonwealth is fascist as well.
