Around The Houses

We may pass swiftly over the mind-bogglingly ignorant assertion of The World At One that no one is ever evicted from a council house, or refused council housing, no matter how badly they behave.

I have only ever lived very briefly, and over a quarter of a century ago, in a council house. And I have never understood the connection between council housing and unemployment. Subsidised rent, and security of tenure, could be, should be, historically were, and of course often still are a springboard to work, since major worries no longer apply.

Subsidised rent.

And security of tenure.

That the end of either is being seriously considered is yet another indication of the urgent need for a proper Labour Party, something now entirely lacking from the House of Commons.

  1. The abolition of security of tenure would be used as a form of social control.
