The programme ostensibly about them on More 4 last night was very interesting. But where were the widows?
We got a woman who had been neither married nor engaged to the deceased, although it was true that they had a child together, exclaiming that "He was a husband to me". But, in point of fact, he wasn't. And we got a same-sex partner, in a country with no civil partnerships.
There must have been far more widows, properly so called as a matter of fact. And they can't all have used their compensation payments to steal someone else's husband, as also depicted.
For that matter, where were the widowers?
