The Lib Dems and The EU

The Lib Dems’ Eurofanaticism has always sat rather ill with everything else in which they profess to believe, and with the fact that they hold numerous fishing seats from the whole of Cornwall to Orkney & Shetland via North Norfolk, Berwick, North East Fife and elsewhere.

But, no doubt fearing a wipe out by the equally Eurofanatical (but inexplicably Mail and Telegraph-endorsed) Tories in the West Country, and by the Tories’ SNP manservants in Scotland, the Lib Dems are shifting, apparently.

So, will the Lib Dems now restore the supremacy of British over EU law, use this to restore the United Kingdom’s historic fishing rights, and insist that no EU law apply in the United Kingdom without having gone through exactly the same parliamentary process as if it were a Bill which had originated in our own Parliament?

Will the Lib Dems demand the show-stopping Empty Chair Policy until the Council of Ministers meets in public and publishes an Official Report akin to Hansard?

Will the Lib Dems now disapply in the United Kingdom any ruling of the European Court of Justice by resolution of the House of Commons, and any ruling under either the Human Rights Act or the European Convention on Human Rights unless and until ratified by such a resolution?

And will the Lib Dems now preclude any need for a referendum on further European integration, by forcing Parliament to do its job properly and just say no?

We will.
