Gordon Brown has never really seen the point of the EU, and today's attempt to defend it was very visibly failing to convince either himself or Jack Straw, whose views are much the same, and the look on whose face was absolutely priceless. He really wanted to do an Irish jig around the Speaker's Chair. And so did Brown. What was stopping them?
