Knight Colin Blakemore

So said Tom Utley in the Daily Mail a few days ago. So says this article in today's Guardian. And so say I.

    Animal research, including that carried out by Colin Blakemore, has contributed greatly to medical advances of the last certury and continues to do so.

    On the other hand what sets Prof. Blakemore apart from other scientists who have "just" done their jobs very well (the usual criterion for a knighthood) is his courage in speaking out for animal researchers and those doing it despite threats and bombs. This bravery, displayed by few others showed until quite recently, was well beyond the call of duty and for this alone he deserves a knighthood.
