Sanctioned Thinking

The measures announced today are what Jeremy Corbyn would have advocated as Leader of the Opposition, and they are what he would have implemented as Prime Minister. Then as now, the overwhelmingly bloodthirsty Parliamentary Labour Party would have been furious. John Healey may be right that Diane Abbott is "marginal" within today's Labour Party, but that does not make her wrong.

Those Conservatives who are today showing themselves most hawkish already hated Boris Johnson, mostly over Brexit. They and the Labour frontbench want to close down RT because, like the GB News that they also have in their sights, it has on the people who do not hate Johnson or Brexit, and it has on the people who have been right about all of these wars. Those have tended to have been social conservatives, or at least qualified Corbyn supporters, or both. Meanwhile, the SNP wants to close down RT for no reason except that it has Alex Salmond on it. This debate has descended to pure factionalism.
