Only Too Recognisable

There is no real arguing with American recognition. So Morocco has been given Western Sahara in return for a formal recognition of Israel, a State with which it has been merrily cooperating for decades. Is there outrage at this body blow to the decades-long Sahrawi struggle for self-determination? No, of course not.

Yet the American sanctions against Russia remain in force because of its "annexation" of Crimea, pursuant to a referendum in a territory that was overwhelmingly ethnically Russian, and which had always been in Russia until it was transferred by decree in 1954.

This is why they hate us. And the answer to the Blairy, sweary belching that "Nobody cares about this [stuff]" is not only "You should get out more," but also "They will when they're bombed right here. Again."
