Fixed Terms

Good riddance to the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act, but the Government should still have to have lost a vote of confidence for a General Election to be held before the term were up. Even if only by one vote, as in 1979.

Although the term might usefully be reduced to four years, there must never, ever, ever be any transfer of power from Parliament back to the Executive. Never. I am the Independent parliamentary candidate for North West Durham. What are you doing?
