Jo Johnson is the first politician ever to resign in order to spend less time with his family. Some of us come from good sized families that are close in age, so we understand. If one of my siblings became Prime Minister, then I would do something pretty big to direct attention back to myself. But Orpington was once the scene of a famous Liberal by-election victory, while Kent is now Farage country. It is a seat well worth watching.
Meanwhile, the reemergence of Luciana Berger from wherever it is that she is kept is a fascinating, and perhaps final, reminder of the last, decadent days of New Labour. If she had not been so desperate for a safe seat, then Tony Blair's eldest son would still be a virgin. Yes, really. Oh, well, off to the Lib Dems she now goes. To join Chuka Umunna, who was also "not unknown" to her back in the day.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration. After nearly 30 years of suggestion, speculation, and even a sort of preparation, I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham. The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
