Striking Out

In a properly run party, then Johnny Mercer would have been told, "You don't get to decide that, so you're out."

After all, he was already in an "either too wicked or too stupid" situation about his rather well-paying charity and its crooked parent company. But who is there to kick him out now? Even he can do as he pleases these days. So he does.

Mercer is not the sharpest tool in the box, but even he seems to have worked out that there can only be one war hero in politics at any given time, and that Tom Tugendhat is vastly more intelligent in more than one sense of the word.

Tugendhat is the neocon Crazy who is being lined up for the Foreign Secretaryship under MI6's finest, the anointed Prime Minister in Waiting, Rory Stewart, whose record in Afghanistan and Iraq is bizarrely deemed to qualify him for his stopgap position. International Development, indeed.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post.

I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
