Roots And Branches

Nobody can deny that the Labour Party has gone back to its roots. Deliciously, early next week, there is going to be a sit down. On one side will be the NUM. On the other will be the Irish machine in the North West.

Between them, they are going to decide who is to be the Left's candidate for Leader of the Labour Party. And since the Left massively predominates among the members, then that will effectively appoint the next Leader of the Labour Party.

I say again that in the first full working week of the 2020s, the Leadership of the Labour Party is going to be decided, without a vote's having been cast, by a sit down between the miners and the Salford Irish dockers.

And I say again that this is delicious. More than delicious enough to choke the once-entitled courtiers and camp followers of Keir This and Jess That. Whose alternative option would be what, exactly? Boris Johnson? There is no Third Way.

I ought to like Rebecca Long-Bailey, and I do want to. Proper Left and a practising Catholic, alas she is tainted by Jeremy Corbyn's capitulation to Starmer over Brexit. So if Ian Lavery were not on the ballot, then it would have to be Lisa Nandy, who does in fact have a great deal to commend her.

But no matter who had become the Leader of the Labour Party or anything else, I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
