Here's a lifetime goal for you, to have four funerals in two different countries, including the capital cities of both of them, and for at least three of those funerals to be absolutely enormous, with even the fourth, back in your hometown, unlikely to be a "family flowers only" affair. Not memorial services. Funerals, With your corpse. But remember, he was hated. All of those people on the streets must be dancing in them.
Ostensible supporters of Boris Johnson have been gleefully circulating Jeremy Corbyn's tweet calling for deescalation, but in reality Corbyn's position is exactly that of the Government, as Mike Pompeo has angrily pointed out.
A new Cold War is taking shape. On one side is the United States under either party, with Israel, the increasingly Wahhabi Sunni States of the Gulf, Hindutva, and everyone who, one way or another, comes with any of those. On the other side are Russia, China, Velâyat-e Faqih, and everyone who, one way or another, comes with any of those.
And there are those who are determined to be on neither side, or somehow on both depending on the circumstances. With Canada and New Zealand, the core of that third bloc is Europe both in and out of the EU, and very much including Britain.
The only British dissent worth mentioning will be on the right wings of both parties, from people who had already been economically well to the right of the Government ever since it had stopped including the Liberal Democrats, but especially since it had become electorally dependent on the past and potential red wall.
On economic and foreign policy alike, neither right wing has anywhere else to go, so it can safely be ignored. Or, at any rate, in can be so while the Government has an enormous majority. I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
