Back To The Future?

Some people still do not see it. The Conservative Party wants to lose between 30 and 50 seats to the Liberal Democrats, and it is quite prepared to lose 10 or so to the SNP in the process.

The Conservatives enjoyed the Coalition. That Government got a lot done, and it lasted a full five years. Only an unrepeatable combination of local flukes and local frauds ended it in 2015. Conservative MPs had expected it to carry on, and they have wanted it back ever since.

The Lib Dems did not "enable" austerity. They believed in it. They were and are socially ultraliberal and pro-EU Thatcherites, as Margaret Thatcher herself was when she was in office, and as most Conservative MPs still are.

Being back in Coalition with the Lib Dems, thereby consigning the Right of their own party to oblivion along with the DUP, would be most Conservative MPs' dream come true, and it would be the dream come true of the people who funded the Conservative Party.

We need to make sure that it will not be that easy for them. Another hung Parliament is coming, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration.

I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham even if I can raise only the deposit, which I could do by going pretty overdrawn, although that was not how I was brought up. Buy the book here

I would still prefer to raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign, but I am no longer making my candidacy conditional on having done so. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
