The Line, Indeed

John Bolton has no role in trade policy. Jack Straw has a lot to answer for, but he is right that Bolton is trying to hoodwink us out of the Iran nuclear deal.

Meanwhile, the Democrats in Congress, which would have to give its approval, are adamant that there will be no trade agreement with the United Kingdom unless the Irish Republic had been given everything that it wanted.

The Irish Republic is the only other country that the United States loves unconditionally, so that nothing is ever asked in return.

And the people who really do have a very active role in negotiating American trade agreements are as determined as ever to get their hands on our National Health Service.

But none of this is any necessary consequence of Brexit. This is about who is going to be in power at the end of this year. And that is in our hands.

Another hung Parliament is coming, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration.

I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham even if I can raise only the deposit, which I could do by going pretty overdrawn, although that was not how I was brought up. Buy the book here.

I would still prefer to raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign, but I am no longer making my candidacy conditional on having done so.

In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
