The Poles came to a prosperous country. Why would anyone come to Austerity Britain? Especially from Romania, which has the highest rate of economic growth in the EU?
Accordingly, they are not.
Still, Labour ought to have forced a Commons vote last year, on making permanent the restrictions that the former Labour Government had imposed at the time of Romanian and Bulgarian accession.
It would not have made any difference, because they were not coming, anyway. But it would have been a good strategic, or at least tactical, move.
