A Load of Thurrocks

If UKIP supporters knew anything at all about, well, anything at all, then they would know that Labour-Conservative coalitions are, and have always been, perfectly normal in local government. Why would that not be the case?

As is their right, the voters of Thurrock have delivered a hung council. Any two parties could have banded together. Labour and the Conservatives have managed to do so.

Whining Kippers are just sore losers who, moreover, have absolutely no idea how politics works.

What do they think that local councils do? What would a UKIP council do? Pass a monthly resolution to pull out of the EU, but never empty the bins or cut the grass, that's what.

Most UKIP Councillors will not last two years before they get bored and clear off. Leaving their communities with the cost of by-elections.

  1. The Derwentside machine rolls on in the form of David Lindsay. A man who grew up politically around the alliance of Old Labour right-wingers from the countryside and a strongly Catholic town with "Independents" who were traditional Northern Tories.

An alliance against the Labour wing of the local Labour party, although they mysteriously always thought you were on the left.

One of your political godfathers managed to lead that council for 30 years and the "Independent" "opposition" never contested his ward. But he gave them twice as many scrutiny chairs as they were entitled to and a lot of other things besides. Out of favour Labour people got nowt.

Then there were your long years on Lanchester parish council. The delicious irony is that when you stood down last year it finally did the thing you had been trying to engineer since before one of the beneficiaries started school, 15 nominations for 15 seats, no election.

Including members of that "Independent" group and at least one open Tory.

  3. David Lindsay, the ultimate machine politician whose machine broke down.

  4. Really? I'd say the David Lindsay machine was running very smoothly indeed these days.

  5. You are beating them round the houses on Breitbart: "Thanks to the BBC, Kippers believe that you are entitled to be declared the winners merely for having turned up. You are not." Spot on.

  6. The only reason there was 15 nominations for 15 seats was because I took the decision to stand down to save the council money. NOTHING to do with anything else.
