The Road To Mandalay

The situation in Burma is at least putting paid to the weird Western delusion of Buddhist pacifism. Wherever did anyone acquire that foolish notion?

But we ned to bear in mind that we were supposed to be rescuing the poor and put-upon Muslims, as such, from the wicked Soviets (assumed, the whole population and its entire conscript Army, to be Marxist-Leninist atheists) in Afghanistan.

Again, were we supposed to be rescuing the poor and put-upon Muslims, as such, from the wicked Serbs, first in Bosnia, and then also in Kosovo.

And support for the Chechens is always phrased as a desire to rescue the poor and put-upon Muslims, as such, from the wicked Russians.

How has any of those worked out for us?
