For Your INFORMation

Damian Thompson's Who's Who entry says that he is a Governor of INFORM. But that comes as news to it.

To be fair, he does seem to have written for it once. (It looks as if it was his PhD thesis.) But that is hardly the same thing. One would have thought...

Either way, the first of the above links lists Man In This Week's News, Lord Ahmed of Rotherham, as one of the Patrons.

So, does Thompson have links to Lord Ahmed? Or is he lying in Who's Who? It has to be one or the other. But which is it?

  1. Simple. I was a governor of Inform until this year when, not having to been able to attend their board meetings for three years because they happen during work hours, I stepped down. But I am still adviser to Inform. My PhD thesis was supervised by Prof Eileen Barker, Inform's founder, but was not about new religious movements.

  2. I don't normally allow up those who pretend to be Damian Thompson (among other people...).

But if this is fairly accurate, then Lord Ahmed's problems go back well before this year.

So, that would seem to answer the question: no lie in Who's Who, just ties to Lord Ahmed.

  3. No ties of any sort to Lord Ahmed, never had any contact with him and to be honest would have to google him to distinguish him from Lord Ahmad... Having done so I see he's the guy who goes on about Jews. I've also had to google to see that he's a patron of Inform. Hmm. Anyway, no encounters with him of any sort so this whole post is based on a false premise.

  4. Not at all.

If we are going to keep up this act, "you" were by "your" own admission a Governor until this year of a registered charity and a limited company having Ahmed as one of its Patrons.

Meaning that "you" are hardly helping "your" own case by claiming barely to have heard of him.

  5. I don't have a case to answer. I didn't know Ahmed was a patron, because I'd let my attendance at Inform meetings slip and the list of patrons tended to change over time. You can check any of this with Prof Barker. And why are sceptical that this is me? My mobile number is in Who's Who (I think). Just ring and I can confirm my identity.

  6. If he really does give his mobile phone number in Who's Who, then he has only himself to blame.

Oh, well, it seems that there might be a third possibility after all: that he is an incompetent charity trustee and company director, and an utterly uninquisitive journalist.
