Marching Orders

One of the most abiding fallacies about the Conservative Party is that it is the special friend of the Armed Forces. One of the most abiding fallacies about New and Old Labour is that the former was pro-Forces and the latter hostile towards them.

How I have been derided over the years for pointing out that one day the Armed Forces would do their sworn duty of defending this Realm by taking to the streets and, without a shot's being fired (as John Reid predicted about Afghanistan), bringing down our rotten, wretched Political Class.

On Thursday, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will march in protest on the Palace of Westminster, the first demonstration by soldiers on the streets of London since the Bishopsgate Mutiny of 1649, and the first ever street protest by the British Army since it was formed in 1707.

Get behind them. Literally, if you can.
