The People Into Parliament?

I suggested to an old friend that he might seek the Labour nomination at Middlesbrough.

But he assured me that he, a professional person in his middle thirties, could not possibly afford to print and post leaflets to every Labour Party member there, and to visit each of them at least once at home.

Yet both of those, and more, are now expected in order to secure a safe Labour seat. It is now, as he put it to me, "a posh boys' game".

  1. Would not the party of Keir Hardie turn misty eyed to an honest son of Lanchester?

Do you think there is any chance that the writer & journalist Damian Thompson might be nominated as the Conservative candidate for you constituency David?

  2. No on both counts.

Not that it matters in the least who secures the Conservative nomination in a seat like this.

  3. The selection is this week, it will be a local after credible and well-known independent Ray "Robocop" Mallon said he would "look at the quality of candidate selected" meaning if it looks like a Labour parachute, he will stand and he could win. So expect solid, local candidate.

And no, I'm not in the mix. I may be solid, but not quite local!
