A Sinn Fein First Minister? So What?
The powers of the First and Deputy First Minister are precisely identical, and the distinction was only drawn as a sop to Unionists who assumed that one or other of their parties would always be the single largest, as well as because the original, pre-Saint Andrews, Good Friday Agreement gave the position of First Minister to a member of the Assembly's larger tradition rather than largest party, should the two have failed to coincide. But I say again, the powers are, and have always been, identical. A Sinn Fein First Minister? So what?
