I’d rather see Russia in the Commonwealth, if the choice had to be made. Pre-eminent among the Slavs in their historic mission as the gatekeepers of Biblical-Classical civilisation, the True West, both against decadence within and against every foe without. And rewarded with a neocon-backed Islamist insurrection in Chechnya, just as the Serbs were rewarded with a neocon-backed Islamist insurrection in Kosovo.
Georgia is the outpost of the neocons’ godless, rootless, debt-ridden, stupefied and promiscuous pseudo-West; the Dubai of the Caucasus. The President is basically an American, and not one of the good ones. The Defence Minister is literally an Israeli, of the pseudo-Western kind. And the former was “elected” with 96.24 per cent of the vote. You don’t get any of that in Russia, any more than in, say, Iran. Although you do in “liberated” Afghanistan.

ReplyDeleteSaakasvili is no saint, but on any international comparison of democracy, human rights, economic freedom etc. Georgia comes out way ahead of Russia.
As for Russia as the gatekeeper of biblical-classical civilization, well that had me rolling on the floor in a fit of giggles... I guess you've never been there and don't read the news.
No one in Russia gets 96.24 per cent of the vote. Nor has the present Russian Federation, rather than the USSR, ever started a war.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, she has gone to war, not of her initiation, to protect her citizens from impending genocide in a territory artifically arrogated to his own native land by, of all people, Stalin.
Can you name that land? I'll give you a clue. Like all the other neocon flagships (Kosovo, Afghanistan, &c), it is corrupt to the level of an Olympic sport.
