"That's not really political," an activist for the defunct BNP shrieks at me in another place because one of the things that I hold against Enoch Powell is his support for easier divorce. (One of the things that I hold in his favour is his opposition to capital punishment, and another is his opposition to nuclear weapons, but those are oddly unmentioned by my interlocutor.)
And, of course, it's because I'm a Catholic. Whereas in fact, that I am now a Catholic is in no small measure because I hold such views, not the other way around.
So there you have it. Family values are "not really political". And there is no place for Catholics in politics. Oh, and they hate trade unions, too. Well, of course they do. The lower end of the lower middle class always does.
The BNP's swansong General Election campaign is shaping up well, isn't it?
