Off The Wall?

Was it bad of me to laugh uproariously when, last night of all nights, Andrew Neil interviewed General Sir Mike Jackson? Was it? Was it really?

Twenty minutes into The World At One, and they were still talking about Michael Jackson. They had even played Blame It On The Boogie! On Radio Four! On the news!

Much comment about how odd he was. But in fact his two divorces, for example, were quite typical of his generation. And there is nothing unusual about a man of 50’s death from a heart attack because he insisted on attempting to keep up the workload of a man of 30 or younger.

Still, I hope that it will all have quietened down by next Thursday. Question Time is to feature Jarvis Cocker…

I don't think it was his two divorces that people were thinking of when they said he was odd.

  4. Ced, it was the funniest such example I have ever seen, even funnier than when The Kumars at Number 42 was shown including an interview with Lulu, broadcast on the day of the death of her ex-husband, Morris Gibb of the Bee Gees. At least that had been recorded weeks or months before.

Hendip, I was letting it out from Psychoville. Genius.

    Billy, really...?

  5. What do Newcastle United and Michael Jackson have in common? It doesn't matter if your black or white, they still went down in 2009!

  6. I cannot stop crying.

    I fear the tribute music.

I fear a new and worse Candle In The Wind!

  7. Mackem, uncalled for.

Anonymous, I'm truly sorry (he had children, his mother is still alive, &c), but really this level of coverage is absurd. Huge changes in education policy today and barealy a word.

  8. Yes David it was very bad of you to laugh uproariously.
The difference between Manchester United and Michael Jackson.

We will be playing Giggs in London.
Sorry...that was VERY wrong of me.

  9. Me, I'm truly sorry he preferred slamming heroic quantities of Demerol to remaining alive, seeing as how he had the wellbeing of his kids to consider.

I'm very liberal about drugs, personally, but shucks.

  10. No, I laughed as well. We can't deny ourselves - there's so little to laugh about these days, and it was the unfortunate timing that made me laugh, not the news of a man's death.
