Illiberal Undemocrats

Or things that Polly Toynbee clearly doesn't know:

- South West MEP Graham Watson was a driving force behind the EU Arrest Warrant, which allows British citizens to be taken to face trial in another EU member country without evidence of a crime first having to be presented in court - overriding a fundamental legal safeguard of individual liberty called Habeas Corpus;

- East of England MEP Andrew Duff had a leading role in drafting the EU's so-called Charter of Fundamental Rights. Article 52 of the Charter sinisterly authorises "limitations" of basic rights is doing so is deemed in the "general interest" of the EU. The Charter is given legal force in the Lisbon Treaty, which Lib Dem MPs voted to approve;

- the Lisbon Treaty also gives more "operational" powers to the EU's police force Europol. Unlike our own police, Europol officers have immunity from criminal prosecution;

- Lib Dem MPs have voted to approve successive EU treaties giving more powers to the EU. The result is increasingly authoritarian EU laws like the recent communications data retention directive. This intrusive move requires the recording of data about every email we send and every website we visit;

- the Lib Dems are working to ensure the result of Ireland's democratic vote against the Lisbon Treaty is ignored. In February last year, Lib Dem MEPs voted against a motion to respect the Irish referendum result. In March this year, Liberal MEP group leader Graham Watson pledged to use taxpayers' money he and his colleagues will gain from the European Parliament to help fund efforts to bully the Irish people into reversing their clear 'No' vote;

- the Lib Dems also want us to scrap the pound and join the euro. This would place major elements of control over the economy, such as over interest rates and exchange rates, completely beyond the influence of anyone we elect.

Vote No2EU - Yes To Democracy.

  1. The Lisbon Treaty Referendum is interesting.
    Just a week before the Irish vote, "European" foreign ministers were telling Robert Mugabe that he must accept the democratic will of the Zimbabwe electorate.
    After the Irish vote, the same Europeans were urging that the Irish vote be ignored.

  2. Not least the Lib Dems, now favoured by Polly Toynbee.
