When banging people up for over three months without even so much as charging them with anything was being proposed, the Police were all over the place calling for it and predicting the end of civilisation if it didn't happen. But now, no bombs and not even one relevant case (where a terrorist suspect had to be released before the time ran out) later, where are they to call for six weeks instead?
They have thought about it. If you haven't been charged, then you can't be remanded. So you can't be sent to a remand centre. Instead, since you are still in that preliminary stage of mere interrogation, you have to be kept in a cell at a Police Station.
For six weeks?
No fear!
