Let It Be

I wouldn't normally blog about something like the marital woes of Sir Paul and Lady McCartney, although it is notable how very differently Lady McCartney is being treated compared to Diana, Princess or Wales. Why have we not a new Patron Saint of Wronged Women, 10 years after losing the old one? Could it be that the Beatles really are the English-speaking world's secular royalty after all, even to the extent of supplanting the old sacral ones in the British popular mind? All sorts of things follow if so, and they are not very nice.

Situations like the McCartneys' would not arise if entitlement upon divorce were fixed at one per cent of the other spouse's estate for each year of marriage, up to fifty per cent.
