Congratulations to Rachel Reeves on becoming the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer to be sacked. Although the status of Reeves demonstrates that he may as well be, Andy Burnham ought already to be Prime Minister, and the Labour Party could then elect any Leader that it saw fit while he got on with governing the country. But Burnham should make it clear that there would be absolutely nothing, not even so much as a trade envoyship, for anyone who had attempted to stand against him or who had adhered to any such attempt.
Not that the Burnham Premiership is anything to look forward to. It is coming, but as the late Alice Mahon put it, “What do I have in common with James Purnell? He looks like a Poor Law Guardian.” Look forward to the return of his wheeze to charge interest on Universal Credit crisis loans. A luta will very much continua. See you on the barricades.
