In office nationally on only a third of the votes cast and a fifth of the eligible vote, with many marginal and numerous competitive seats, Labour's vote at Thursday's local by-elections fell by an average of 19 per cent across six English regions. Those of us who vote in local by-elections vote in absolutely everything.
All that, and a 45-point drop in Keir Starmer's approval rating means that he is now less popular than Rishi Sunak. It is over. It is just that, as in the Major years, it is going to be over for a very long time.
Will they come crying to the Red Wall?
ReplyDeleteHaving despised the Highlands for centuries, the Stuarts fell back on them, to the utter ruin of both. The Red Wall will not be making the same mistake.
