Would Actually Be An Improvement

Here in North West Durham, at least two Labour County Councillors are now openly canvassing for the parliamentary nomination at the General Election after next. They have written off this seat this time.

As a member of the National Executive Committee has said to me, "She lost Cramlington to the Tories, so losing North West Durham to either you or the Lib Dems would actually be an improvement."

And as a Shadow Cabinet member has put it to me in writing, in the absence of a Conservative candidate of sufficient local prominence, "You and Owen Temple are the only serious challengers to each other."

Like the NEC member, the Shadow Cabinet member takes it as a given that Laura Pidcock will come no higher than third. That is clearly also the view of at least two Labour County Councillors here. It is probably the view of all of them.

Like most or all of the Independents, most or all of those Labour Councillors were already going to vote for me, even if, pointedly unlike last time, they signed Pidcock's nomination papers. And now, at least two of them more or less publicly have every reason to contribute to her defeat.

Both of my interlocutors are of the view that Labour voters who voted for the Brexit Party earlier this year will just stay at home in most constituencies, costing Labour seats even by doing only that, but those voters would actively turn out and vote for me if I could reach them.

The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
