We do not give that free pass to the Russians, who would have a much better claim to it. So we should not give it to the Americans, either. We need grownup relations with each and both of them. But some hope of that with most Labour, almost all Conservative, and apparently all Lib Dem and more than half of SNP MPs.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post.
