Three quarters of Labour seats are in England even now, in Opposition.
One third of Labour Party members lives in London.
And so on.
Scotland, like the South East, decides the size of Labour majorities. But not the fact of those majorities.
Again, like the South East. Or else there would have been no such majority in 2005.

Imdependent Scotland would take with it 41 Labour seats and just one Tory seat. Easily enough to cause a hung Parliament in 2015.
ReplyDeleteIt's clear why the Left is (embarrassingly) pretending to discover British patriotism over this.
They want to keep imposing Left-wing governments on us that we don't like.
Utterly illiterate.
ReplyDeleteAs if Labour is not going to win double or triple 41 extra seats in England in 2015.
ReplyDeleteBut what you say is true, Mr. L. Most Labour seats are always in England. Scotland decides size of Labour majority, so does South East, but everywhere else decides in Labour wins at all.
Will be the same with easy Labour win in 2015.
Precisely.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, the right to set the parameters of British patriotism does not belong to the party the mere existence of which is not only one of the strongest Scottish separatist arguments, but also the reason for the increasing advancement of serious arguments for the North of England also to consider secession, a view which until a very few years ago was only ever heard half-jokingly and towards the end of an evening's drinking.
I repeat, the mere existence of the supposed party of the Union now has this effect.
It is in fact One Nation Labour, precisely because of its social democracy, that is the force for the national and parliamentary sovereignty, and for the parliamentary and municipal democracy, of the United Kingdom in the face of all challenges.
Is Anonyboy boy at it again? It is the Right in Britain that is totally unpatriotic, wanting to dismantle everything valued by most British people including almost everyone in Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland/North of England, and owing allegiance to foreign powers: America/Israel/Murdoch/global capital. Thanks to them, Royal in Royal Mail now refers to Emir of Kuwait. We on the Left are the patriots.
ReplyDeleteThat point about the north of england is, in my view, one of the main reasons for David Cameron's support for the union. If one part goes, where will it end? London could become like Vienna in 1918, an imperial capital with a rump of land around it.
ReplyDeleteYes, Lindsay, you're right.
ReplyDeleteLabour doesn't depend on Scottish seats to win elections....erm, except in 1974 and 1964...
And yes "Tom", you're right.
The Left are "the patriots"...patriotic towards the Soviet Union, Cuba, Scandinavian welfarism, French secular republicanism, international socialism, you name it...
But not patriotic towards Britain, my friend.
Bless. Always good to hear from the losers.
ReplyDeleteJames, quite so.
Today's papers note Scotland is heading for independence.
ReplyDeleteAnd that many Government strategists think its likely they'll vote No-with polls showing 40% of decided voters will vote Yes.
Nobody thought Salmond could do it in 2011.
He's going to do it
No, he isn't.
ReplyDelete1. Re Westminster - results show that Labour winning without without Scotland IS THE NORM, remember Scotland was Tory until the 50's.
ReplyDelete2. One poll, Panelbase, is skewing the results towards the YES campaign. This is an SNP funded poll.
Remove the Panelbase poll from the equation it is easy to see why the No campaign feel at ease.
3. Alasdair darling is doing well enough running the No campaign.
