Not All Change Is Progress

Syria has shot down a warplane of our dear NATO and putative EU brother, Islamist Turkey. Good for Syria, protecting her outpost of Christendom in this way.

Meanwhile, I cannot help feeling that the Egyptian outpost might be better off if the Muslim Brotherhood candidate were declared President, since the Copts could not then be scapegoated for the Brother's and the Brothers' defeat.

Assad, Mubarak, Gaddafi, Ben Ali, Saddam, Milosevic, Tito: sometimes anything else actually available would be even worse, and quite often a very great deal worse indeed. The only available alternatives to Putin are far too horrific to contemplate. The same is true of Iran. And the same is true of Syria.
