Newman's Barometer

The Lady Cardinals, who are not really expected next year but who are now effectively inevitable, will shock the self-appointed voices of Catholic womanhood to the core, and will prevent those from ever again being taken seriously.

Likewise, the results of the Holy Father's survey, which of course will have no theological status whatever it says, will silence those who have screeched and screamed, as if somehow it mattered, that the Catholic lay faithful did not agree with the Church's Teaching about those screechers' and screamers' hobbyhorses.

  1. I had a feeling this would happen.

I fear this Pope's critics were right all along.

  2. As long as he remembers that the Church is also, as the wise man once said of society, "a contract between the dead, the living and those yet to be born".

It is not his to change, as he sees fit. He is the temporary custodian of something much bigger than he will ever be.
