In the words of Lord Tebbit, "I joined the Young Conservatives determined to change the world."
Thus died the old party of pragmatism and patriotism, of paternalism and populism.
Still, he did say that the working classes had adopted the nasty habits of the upper classes. But he could not bring himself to say how, when or why.
He's still far better than any of the interchangeable talentless nobodies on either of the front benches now.
ReplyDeleteHe supports leaving the EU and the ECHR, ending our green dogma, restoring grammar schools, cutting taxes and a complete freeze on all further immigration.
That makes him far better than Cameron, Miliband and Clegg combined.
What a tragedy that the IRA prevented him becoming Prime Minister.
The greatest crime they ever committed against Britain.
I doubt that even he would agree with that.
ReplyDeleteApart from David Davis, he's the best Prime Minister we never had.
ReplyDeleteThe left-wing BBC saw to it that Davis didn't win the Tory leadership contest with their ridiculous trumpeting of Cameron-they'd have preferred Tommy Robinson to Mr Davis.
Davis stood as a socially conservative Eurosceptic (if he was as anti-neocon internationally as he has since become, then he did not mention it in those days). Cameron stood as a socially liberal Europhile and neocon.
ReplyDeleteCameron took more than two thirds of the vote. The votes of Conservative Party members.
Like John McCain or Mitt Romney, Cameron was chosen by his own party members because he represented and represents their views.
Whereas the alternative, which was fully available to them, did not and does not.
Cameron took the vote solely because the media convinced the Tories that Cameron had "media appeal" (a circular argument if ever I heard one).
ReplyDeleteThat Davis was the dry, boring voice of the past and youthful, exuberant Cameron was their only possible election-winner.
The BBC knew exactly what it was doing-I'll never forget how they feverishly undermined everything Davis did and absurdly overpraised every mediocre Cameron speech.
You sound like a Marxist, going on about false consciousness.
ReplyDeleteFurther to my last comment, read this link (below) in The Guardian from the time of the Tory leadership contest.
ReplyDeleteIt reveals Davis's exasperation as the BBC "took leave of its senses" in becoming a cheerleader for "Old Etonian" Cameron during the leadership contest. Ill never forget it.
