The PM's Panic

Tom Watson has effectively announced a Labour three-line Whip on Adam Afriyie's amendment for a straight In-Out referendum on the EU next year. If not, why not?

David Cameron could marshall his troops and defeat a referendum.

Or those troops could refuse to be marshalled, and thus defeat David Cameron.

There is no third way.

And the mere tabling of this amendment will overshadow the reshuffle as completely as the dispute between Ed Miliband and the Daily Mail overshadowed the Conservative Party Conference.

Splendid.

  1. When this does not happen, blame whoever kept you off the district council 10 years ago and so out of Parliament in 2010. If you had been there, this would have happened like so many other things including stopping Royal Mail privatisation by promising to renationalise. Whoever kept you down then is to blame for those things not happening now.

  2. The problem is that he would not see the problem. Blairite fundamentalists who support the Daily Mail (or absolutely anyone else) against Ed Miliband, who still want to join the euro even now, who still want war against Syria and Iran, and whose only objection to the privatisation of the Royal Mail is the issue of shares to common little employees, are still not only on the staff of the Labour Party, but being promoted within that staff. Most concerning.
