Burnham Hunt: The Kill

Jeremy Hunt has been completely humiliated, forced to retract in the face of a libel action by Andy Burnham. The charge made in Hunt's tweet is made routinely by the Coalition's and UKIP's supporters, including those who remain loyal to Tony Blair and David Miliband. Burnham should make it clear that he will sue anyone who repeats it.

Hunt's position is now untenable even before the first of, doubtless, many Murdoch Trials begins. But the BBC comes out of this no better. Having itself done much to spread the smear against Burnham, it has given no coverage, absolutely none, to his magnificent victory over Hunt, who should now be hounded without mercy out of public life.

Just as the BBC gave no coverage whatever to a demonstration of between 50,000 and 70,000 people, the largest event ever policed in Greater Manchester and therefore quite possibly even larger than that. That demonstration was against Hunt's policies.

Therefore, it was against the further lining of the pockets of the health privateer and former Chairman of the Conservative Party, Chris Patten. Who also happens to be the Chairman of the BBC.
