"Not Appropriate and Not Acceptable"

The continued extension of the Whip to Liam Fox. This is the opportunity to smoke them all out: "If you don't like it, then you can all resign the Whip in sympathy and see how far an openly Israel First, America Second, Britain Third (If At All) Party gets at the ballot box."

  1. First they came for the Foxes...

Seriously though, Cameron is junking Fox because he's a Catholic and anti-abortion and so he's an ideal scapegoat to draw media fire from Clarke, May and Letwin. The whole America and Israel nonsense really doesn't make any difference, to Cameron or to anyone else.

Not that ditching one of the Cabinet's last token right-wingers has helped, of course. With the Socialists now eight points ahead of the Tories, Mrs Miliband should be picking curtain patterns for No 10 by now.

David Irving and the rest will be loving the revelations about Israel at the moment, but they'll love having an actual Jew as Prime Minister even more.

  2. Well, there really is no answer to any of that.

How does one begin to reason with someone who thinks that Fox's domestic arrangement make him an exemplary Catholic, or that the essence of full-blooded Toryism is an overriding allegiance to two foreign powers?

One of them founded in at least theoretical anti-Catholicism, the other in a very active strain of it which remains virulent to this day, and which is particularly favoured by those on whom Fox and Werritty are ideologically, organisationally and financially dependent.

  3. Jim Murphy is a practising Catholic. Liam Fox seems to be a lapsed one.

  4. Cameron is pro-Israel and pro-America, so he's not getting rid of Fox for either of those reasons. He's getting rid of him because other members of his Cabinet, who are more important to the Cameron project, have got into serious trouble recently - including the Jew Oliver Letwin! I don't know what Fox's domestic situation is, nor whether or not he's an exemplary Catholic. But he's a right-winger, anti-abortion and a Scots Catholic to boot. As such he's an embarrassment to the Cameroons and a convenient scapegoat.

  5. If you believe that, then you will believe absolutely anything.
