Never Been Tried

"It's never been tried", screech "free" market fanatics. That is exactly what equally discredited and deluded people say about Communism. That is what you have become.

Similarly, Dan Hannan's attempt to "repatriate" the Tea Party movement has more than a whiff of Jonathan Freedland's Bring Home The Revolution, which likewise appealed to sources who might technically have been British or one of the precursor nationalities, but who have had significantly less influence here than many people who never set eyes on these shores and could not speak English. Such writings form no part of any of the three British political traditions, any more than, for example, Marxism or Fascism does.

But then, we are now ruled by people whose only political background is on the sectarian Left, and who have taken over all three parties. If their formative influences, or those of the American neoconservative movement (likewise wholly unrelated to to anything remotely normal in American politics), can be treated as mainstream, then absolutely anything can be. However, treating them as mainstream does not make them so. It cannot, because they cannot be so.
