Still The Eternal State

The Western Confucian sees little or no point in a Congressional condemnation of the Ottoman Empire.

I would agree, if we were talking about such a condemnation of the British slave trade, or the Holocaust, or for that matter by the House of Commons of slavery or Jim Crow in the United States. No political force in Britain would disagree with the first, none worth speaking of in Germany (and no more than one in Austria) with the second, none in America with the third.

But that is not the case here. Neither political force in Turkey - Islamism and secular ultranationalist militarism - accepts that the Armenian genocide ever happened at all. On the contrary, they both deny it in the strongest possible terms. The more exposure of the true state of affairs in Turkey, the better.

It was, however, good to hear Ron Paul make the case for non-interventionism, even if it was not clear what intervention anyone was proposing. In the spirit of the populist, socially conservative, farm-labour, Catholic and Evangelical-based Left's participation in, especially, the America First Committee, good luck to Peter Schiff and Rand Paul in at least being nominated; whether or not they should be elected depends on who their Democratic opponents are.

Very good luck indeed to Peg Luksik, since the Democrats need to be shown that they need to run a pro-life, pro-family, anti-war, economically and culturally patriotic supporter of things like public healthcare and the Employee Free Choice Act if they do not want to be one vote down on things like public healthcare and the Employee Free Choice Act, just as the Republicans need to be shown that they can only win what is now a naturally Democratic state in the Northeast, not with an Arlen Specter, but with a pro-life, pro-family and anti-war economic and cultural patriot.

And, since the jungle drums have gone quiet on this one, is there any news on the potential Democratic candidacy of Bob Conley against the preposterous Joe Wilson, so opposed to illegal immigration that he supported not only John McCain, but even Lindsey Grahamnesty specifically against the Ron Paul-supporting traditional Catholic Conley, in 2008?
