The Independent Network, of Esther Rantzen and all that, is now a registered political party, and is controlled by Martin Bell, uncle of, and foreword contributor to, Oliver Kamm, he of both the Henry Jackson Society and the Euston Manifesto Group.
Sleaze was the wrong issue in 1997.
And sleaze is the wrong issue today.

Hi David,
ReplyDeleteI think there's been a vast ammount of confusion here.
We are not a registered political party and have absolutely no plans to go down that right. We are registered as a third party, which is entirely different from being a political party. Third Party status is a legal requirement for all campaign groups involved in supporting certain candidates in elections. Unions such as Unite and NUT are registered third parties. It is also good for the public, as all our accounts and expenditure are avaliable to download on the Electoral Commission website.
Esther Rantzen has attended several events organised by the Independent Network, but has no other connection with the organisation.
Martin Bell has been a very active supporter of the IN and we are grateful for his help. He did not found the organisation however and does not run it.
I'm not sure who the Euston Group are and we do not have any connection to the Henry Jackson society.
I think you got the wrong end of the stick!
You can find more about us on our website: www.independentnetwork.org.uk
We've got you number.
