Hilarita

The pronunciation would be wrong with a double l.

What on earth did you expect? What did you think that America was? A Commonwealth country? The popular British idea that America is some sort of Big Britain is not only bad for Britain in the world, but also the barrier to a proper appreciation of all the really interesting things about America.

Meanwhile, note that the Conservative Party, ever-obedient to America and Israel but not in that order, wants a share of the Falklands oil revenue to go to Argentina. Not in return for a complete and permanent renunciation of any claim to sovereignty. Just anyway.

Where are the Labour posters pointing this out? Where are the advertisements in the Sun and the Daily Mail? The party of Thatcher, who withdrew the Falkland Islands' defenders in anticipation of a transfer of sovereignty, clearly lives on. But where is the party of Callaghan, who successfully resisted the slightest pressure in any such direction?
