As we may as well spell it, under the circumstances. These are the Democrats who voted against a procedural trick designed to stop the inclusion in the Senate's Healthcare Bill of a ban on federal funding of abortion, as passed by the House:
Evan Bayh (Indiana)
Bob Casey (Pennsylvania)
Kent Conrad (North Dakota)
Byron Dorgan (North Dakota)
Ted Kaufman (Delaware)
Ben Nelson (Nebraska)
Mark Pryor (Arkansas)
President Obama has undertaken not to sign any Bill without such a provision, and nor would the House ever approve so deficient a thing if it emerged from the reconciliation process, so the tricksters' cause is doomed.
The time will come when, just as House Republicans must choose between making abortion practically impossible or rejecting the public option that would have that result, so also must Senate Republicans. Faced with the wrecking tactics of those who cannot forgive the nomination of Obama rather than Clinton, which will they do? Continue to read the Constitution as if it were the Qur'an? Or try reading the Bible as if it were the Bible?
As much as anything else, in which do they really think that there are more votes?
