Of Class and Clean Coal

I make no claim to speak like Jimmy Nail or even Ant and Dec (but then, they are all from Tyneside, whereas I am from County Durham), but have you noticed how the anti-coal lobby, which is also the anti-nuclear lobby, is quite exceptionally posh?

These are the people opposed to high-wage, high-skilled, high-status jobs that, furthermore, secure the economic basis of paternal authority in families and communities. Well, of course they are.

And I am all in favour of clean coal technology, not because of anything to do with global warming, but simply because I do not wish people to be breathing in these things if at all avoidable. Had this island built on coal retained a proper coal industry, then this country would have been a world leader in such technology.
