Palin: Lipstick, Not Dispstick?

The Exile writes:

Tonight's vice-presidential debate is being eagerly awaited by Democrats who expect Sarah Plain to be thoroughly humiliated. The Exile thinks that they may be in for a shock. Andrew Halco has debated Sarah many times in Alaska and he has this to say about her:

Palin is a master (sic) of the non-answer. She can turn a 60-second response to a query about her specific solutions to healthcare challenges into a folksy story about how she's met people on the campaign trail who face healthcare challenges. All without uttering a word about her public-policy solutions to healthcare challenges.

And when she does answer the actual question asked, she has a canny ability to connect with the audience on a personal level. For example, asked to name a major issue that had been ignored during the campaign, I discussed the health of local communities, Mr. Knowles talked about affordable healthcare, and Palin talked about ... the need to protect hunting and fishing rights.

What the Democrats have done over the past week or so is tell people that Sarah is too stupid to even dress herself and that Joe Biden will eat her alive. On the basis of this testimony from someone who has debated Sarah and lost to her, that strategy may very well turn out to be another Democrat own goal.

All Sarah Palin has to do is "connect with the audience", and she has won. The audience, of course, is the audience at home in the American heartland.

  1. And people say that you are not a proper Northerner, David!

I haven't heard the word dipstick since I can't remember when.

  2. We'll all get to see and judge the much anticipated debate. I'm sure Palin will do better than she's done at remembering any specifics in interviews. Here's a great take on the lipstick theme: http://hatepalin.com/2008/10/lipstick-on-a-pig/

  4. I don't think she won either. Though she did well when talking about what she had done in Alaska - less well when defending what McCain did in Congress, which is understandable.

As regards the winning by being folksy bit - Biden did more of that. At least half a dozen times he mentioned walking down Main St in Wilmington & talking to Joe about running the economy.
