A questioner asked the Any Questions panel in Accrington how anyone there was supposed to notice a recession, considering that they already had high unemployment, low wages and high benefit dependency.
Back in the Nineties, I remember being baffled by the suggestion that a minimum wage would increase unemployment, since here in County Durham we already had both the lowest wages and the highest unemployment in the country.
How times change...
