Black and White

This is following on from a previous post on Minnesota's Congressional District Five, which contains the whole of Minneapolis, and where the well-placed Republican candidate is Barb Davis White, a Civil Rights leader and African-American clergywoman who gave the invocation at Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic.

What does that tell us about the Black Church and about how it is following the white Catholics and Evangelicals down the road of forced estrangement from the Democratic Party? Reverend White (to use American usage) and her working-class black supporters are pro-life, in favour of strictly limited legal immigration, in favour of zero tolerance of illegal immigration, in favour making English the only official language of the United States, and opposed to needless wars.

Well, being African-American, of course they are.

And those are also the concerns of the white Catholics and the white Evangelicals: take out the blacks, the Irish, and Scots-Irish Southerners and Westerners, and just who would be left in the American military? Those communities demand that wars be fought only when and where absolutely necessary. And they don't like illegal undercutting, or the second-class status to which enforced bilingualism subjects them.

If the Democrats want to keep the black vote, never mind win back the white Catholic and white Evangelical votes, and thus if the Democrats still want to exist a generation from now, then they will drop mandatory support for abortion (the Republicans certainly have no concept of mandatory opposition to it), demand and introduce strict limits on legal immigration, speak and act in favour of zero tolerance of illegal immigration, make English the only official language of the United States, and have no truck with ongoing or putative needless wars.

  1. Yes, but none of these things is going to happen unless the Democratic Party is first cleansed of the likes of Barack Obama - for whom black Americans as a whole will vote overwhelmingly purely on the basis of skin-colour (or 'color', if we're going to be American about these things). And that's not going to happen any time soon.
