Industry and Integrity?

Oliver Ryan was elected to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council when he was 19, and by 24 he held the Portfolio for Children's Services, with a budget of £44 million. On its scrutiny panel was Councillor Laura Boyle. His mother.

The leaking of Ryan's and Andrew Gwynne's WhatsApp messages is about control of Greater Manchester Pension Fund, at £30 billion easily the largest municipal pension fund in the country. All 10 Greater Manchester councils are in it, but for some reason it is run by Tameside. Rachel Reeves wants to consolidate the 86 council pension funds and invest them in her pet projects. Resistance within the Tameside Labour Party is so fierce that the national party has taken control of candidate selection for next year's elections.
