With three times more members than the Labour Party, Unite has refused to endorse the Labour manifesto, but not so as to make any difference by disaffiliating. Yet two years into a Starmer Government, when the General Secretaryship was next up for election, disaffiliation would be enormously popular. Unless anyone with a higher profile did so, then I would stand on a commitment to disaffiliate both from the Labour Party and from the ILGA. Join Unite Community here.
Every penny that anyone other than the unions gives to the Labour Party buys something specific, as does every penny than anyone gives to the Conservative Party. Only we fund a political party in order to be abused by it. Even in normal times, what are we paying for? The eye-wateringly expensive vendetta against Karie Murphy, Seumas Milne, Georgie Robertson, Harry Hayball and Laura Murray, staggeringly ending in the imposition of Alex Barros-Curtis on a safe seat. How a Leader of the Opposition runs his party is how he would run the country as Prime Minister. We need to put country before party.
